Dr. Gray comes to academia after a career in journalism. She spent more than a decade as a foreign correspondent for the German Press Agency in various African countries. She received her Ph.D. with distinction in French and Francophone Studies from Florida State University. Her scholarly interest focuses on contemporary social and cultural issues in France and North Africa, especially with regards to women. She taught for two years at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, Morocco and served as a Senior Fulbright Fellow at Ibn Tofail University in Kenitra, Morocco. She has also conducted extensive research in Algeria and Tunisia. Dr. Gray also teaches in the German Division
