Dr. Joseph Allaire specializes in 16th-century French literature and
is the author of a critical edition of Marguerite d'Angoulême's
Le Miroir de l'âme pécheresse (Fink Verlag, 1972). He is
currently working on the Heptameron and on the evangelism
of Marguerite de Navarre . In addition to the French Renaissance,
Dr. Allaire's areas of interests include 18th-century literature
and French theater from post-classicism to the absurd. He
has won numerous award including the COFRS (summers 1969 and 1970)
and Curriculum development (1971-72), and has been active in the
SAMLA (President, South Atlantic Modern Language Association,
1975; Vice President, 1974; Executive Council, 1974-1976).
Dr. Allaire is currently the undergraduate advisor for French.
In addition to his teaching and research, Dr. Allaire has an active
service record. Most notably, he chairs the Task force on Modern Language
Education of the Florida Statewide Course Numbering System and can be
frequently seen in the State Department of Education.
