Students who choose Chinese, Japanese or Korean to fulfill the language requirement must complete CHI, JPN, or KOR 2200 or the equivalent. All students graduating from the College of Arts and Sciences must fulfill this requirement; selected majors in other departments may also have a language requirement. Students who enter the University with no previous Chinese, Japanese or Korean fulfill the requirement by completing CHI, JPN or KOR 1120-1121 and 2200. Each course carries 4 credit hours for a total of 12 hours for the entire sequence. A student who has taken any college Chinese, Japanese or Korean at another institution must continue the sequence at Florida State University at the nearest equivalent level through CHI 2200 (or 2300), JPN 2200 (or 2300) or KOR2200 to fulfill the language requirement. A student who has taken at least 2 years of these languages in high school may exempt the first levels through departmental placement. After one year or less of Chinese, Japanese or Korean in high school, the student is advised to enter CHI, JPN or KOR 1120.
