Dee Andrews, an alumnus of the IS Ph.D program, has received notable professional recognitions after his graduation in 1980 from FSU. While in the IS Program, he was working under the supervision of Dr. Robert Gagné.
Among his many accolades are the Aviation Week and Space Technology's Innovation in Technology Award in 1998, and election as a Fellow of the Human Factors & Ergonomics Society in 1999.
As the technical director of the Warfighter Training Research Division, U.S. Air Force Research Lab, Dr. Andrews has provided sustained and superior leadership in research and development, directing more than 150 government and contractor scientists, engineers and technicians. He substantially improved the design, training effectiveness, and affordability of flight simulation training. Dr. Andrews served on the editorial board of Human Factors and participated on the HFES National Program and Membership Growth and Retention Committees.
The Innovation in Technology Award from the Aviation Week and Space Technology magazine was a tribute to his leadership in the development of learning strategies and simulation technologies for the training concept the Air Force calls Distributed Mission Training. This training approach combines a variety of interconnected simulators to produce a synthetic battlefield for training warfighting skills. Aviation Week and Space Technology is the world's premier aviation publication.
