International Studies is a unit of interdepartmental programs leading
to baccalaureate and masters degrees in the fields of International
Affairs, Russian and East European Studies, or Asian Studies. Within
the field of International Affairs, students have the opportunity to
focus their studies on any number of thematic or area-studies concentrations,
including the following: Political Economy, Human Rights, International
Planning and Development, Western Europe, or Latin America. Courses
are to be selected from participating departments of Anthropology, Economics,
Geography, Political Science, History, Philosophy, Religion, Sociology,
Urban and Regional Planning, and the School of Public Administration
and Policy. Each program is structured so that it can be individually
tailored to fit a wide variety of career goals. Most students in International
Studies programs anticipate careers in government, business, international
or law organizations, journalism, or teaching. In addition, each of
the programs may serve as a vehicle into more specialized doctoral programs,
usually within one of the disciplines represented by the participating
departments and school.
