Grading Policy

Your final grade in this course will primarily be based on your performance on two take-home examinations, one focusing on the objectives for Unit I, the second focusing on the objectives for Unit II. Both of the exams and some other factors I will consider in determining your course grade are described below.

1. Open-book exam: Unit I

This take-home (tentatively scheduled to be distributed on September 28th or October 5th, with answers due the following Tuesday) will consist of several essay questions that will focus on the objectives for Unit I. I anticipate that each essay question will require about a 750 word response. Your performance on this exam will be weighted as 40% of your final grade.

 3. Other factors considered in determining your grade for the course

A. I consider the in-class activities, and student preparation for those activities, to be a very important part of this class. Therefore, students in the class are expected to:

• read the readings prior to the class session during which they are discussed;

• come to class on time; and

• attend each class session

Students who, on more than one occasion, come to class late, miss a class, or fail to read the required readings will have their course grade reduced by one or more "notches" (e.g., from an "A" to an "A-").
B. During the last week of class sessions, students will report on a small project they undertook (involving interviews with an alumnus of the program). Students who fail to complete this task satisfactorily will have their course grade reduced by one "notch".
