Hydrilla is native to Africa, Australia, and the warmer parts of Asia. It is sometimes called Indian star-vine.

This invader was brought to Florida in 1959 to sell as a plant for aquariums. Some of the imported plants were dumped into canals.

This invader grew fast and soon became a problem.
