ZEBRA MUSSEL
In the spring of 1988, the zebra mussel (Dreissena polymorpha) was discovered in Lake St. Clair.
Scientists believe the zebra mussel was transported to North America in the ballast water of a transatlantic freighter that previously visited a port in Eastern Europe where this mollusk is common.
