GREEN CRAB

Scientists are trying to control populations of the European green crab (Carcinus maenas) before it invades Puget Sound in Washington state. This pest threatens to destroy the populations of seabirds and Dungeness crabs that live there.
The larvae of these invaders may have been brought to the U.S. in the ballast of ships arriving from the Atlantic Ocean or Japan.
