RED IMPORTED FIRE ANT
The
red imported fire ant (Solenopsis invicta) was accidentally introduced
into the Mobile, Alabama, area about 1930.
These South American ants build nests in the soil of open areas, pastures
and crop fields. The ants also are found occasionally in wooded areas.
