BALSAM WOOLLY ADELGID

The balsam woolly adelgid (Adelges piceae) is a major forest pest of fir trees in the Appalachian Mountains and in the States of Oregon and Washington.

This insect is native to Europe and was probably brought into Brunswick, Maine, in 1908. It first appeared in the southern Appalachian Mountains in the 1950's.
