  About the Institute

Funded by a generous bequest from the late Mrs. Ada Belle Winthrop-King, Florida State University’s Institute for Contemporary French and Francophone Studies is a center for interdisciplinary scholarship on France and the wider French-speaking world.
Our interests have a contemporary focus combined with a keen awareness of the historical forces which have shaped the modern world. Through its program of distinguished guest speakers, visiting professors and conferences, together with undergraduate, graduate and high school teacher scholarships, the Institute offers outstanding opportunities in support of teaching and research in French and francophone studies.
I am delighted to have the privilege of leading this exciting development. It is especially stimulating to see FSU taking the research and teaching agenda forward in inter-disciplinary directions. In addition to language and literature, film and other cultural forms, a wide range of social and political issues are being addressed by faculty and students. And as our horizons embrace not only France but also other parts of the world where French is spoken, we are very much alive to the global context of contemporary developments.
