In the half-century which has elapsed since Albert Camus died in a road accident in January 1960, his reputation has undergone marked changes of fortune. Speakers assessing his standing today include Raymond Gay-Crosier (University of Florida at Gainesville), Pierre-Louis Rey (Université de la Sorbonne Nouvelle), Edward Hughes (Queen Mary College, University of London) and Adrian Van Den Hoven (University of Windsor, Ontario).
