PLEASE NOTE: This form is a department application only.
There is a separate online
admissions application which is required by the Florida State
University. Read all of the information below before completing this
application online.

MINIMUM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
According to the Admission Requirements section in the Graduate
Handbook, minimum admission requirements to the Department of
History master's program requires that a student must have:

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college
or university
-
A grade point average of at least 3.3 on a 4.0
scale as an upper-division undergraduate and
-
A minimum score of 1100 on the combined verbal
and quantitative portions of the general aptitude portion of the
Graduate Record Examination.
Minimum requirements for admission to the doctoral
program include:

A master's degree, including a thesis, from an accredited/approved
institution with at least a 3.65 grade point average, and
- A minimum score of 1100 on the combined verbal and quantitative
portions of the GRE.
Students with undergraduate majors in subjects other than history
must have had a minimum of 18 undergraduate semester hours in history.
ADDITIONAL APPLICATION PROCEDURES REQUIRED
Instructions
There are additional items which need to
be included with the application which can not be processed
online.
Once an applicant has submitted an online application,
it is the applicant's responsibility to complete the application
process by submitting the following required
items. These items may be hand-delivered or mailed, as long as they
are received by the Department of History advising staff before
the application due date in which the applicant is applying.:

3 letters of recommendation,
preferably from university professors who are familiar with your
academic work.

A writing sample of a student paper of at least
1200 words in length, preferably one respresenting historical
research
In a large mailing envelope, please enclose a typed note with
your name, mailing address, e-mail address, telephone number
and date which you submitted your online submission; and, please
include your writing sample and 3 letters of recommendation
and mail to the following:

APPLICATION DUE DATES
To ensure that the application is processed in a timely manner, it
is important that the applicant ensure that these items have been
submitted to the Department of History before the application due
date. According to the Application Deadlines section in the Graduate
Handbook, the application deadline for the Fall
semester is January
10th. The Spring semester application is
due by October 1st. There are no admissions for summer.
