FSU Memories - 1970s through 1980sOne of my fondest memories is being crowned Homecoming Chief 1975. It was great riding in the Homecoming parade and greeting so many Seminole fans and friends along College Avenue. I'm glad to know the 2001 parade route will once again travel this old time route. Another great memory is performing two summers at Callaway Gardens with FSU's School of Music All-American Showtimers. They were the best of times and the best thing is we knew it at the time. May God continue to bless FSU, my college friends and all who have made any contribution at all to our garnet and gold heritage. Peace and Love, Phil Phil Barco, BME, 1976 <pbarco@kennesaw.edu> Atlanta, GA USA - Tuesday, November 06, 2001 at 20:23:04 (EST) Pfost boys from Dunedin graduated from FSU although my Dad graduated from West Virginia University and UF.). I remember watching an FSU-Pitt football game with Gary Huff as QB. FSU won easily, of course. My freshman year at FSU in the fall of 1973 was the year of the Streaker. I vividly remember dozens of naked people in the Landis Green fountain and then running down to the Union to the old fountain that was there. I also remember a blind streaker with his cane. FSU was much smaller - you got season football tickets (student) for $10 and seating was first come first served. Ugh, I unfortunately remember we were 0-11 that year. I! also remember finally breaking the losing streak in 1974 by beating Miami at the Orange Bowl. Toilet paper covered the campus by Sunday morning. Basketball was still in Tully Gym, and Hugh Durham was coach. Russell Pfost, BS in Meteorology, 1977 <fsu77gt@juno.com> Cooper City, FL USA - Sunday, September 02, 2001 at 20:21:13 (EDT) My greatest memory occurred after a dastardly event in Saudi Arabia where I was stationed at the time. A terrorist bomb exploded outside the office of the Office of Program Management for the Saudi National Guard, a US Army program at the time. My former spouse worked in the building and we had many friends there, you get close in an overseas environment, especially one like that. She was injured and we lost a few good friends as nine people died as a result of that bomb but the memory will live forever. I emailed Terry Johnson, who was President of the Carolina Alumni Club at the time and Jim Melton. One of the severely injured was a HUGE fan of FSU and they got in touch with Coach Bowden and he sent a telegram to him the next day. At the same time Terry and folks sent around cards at the Florida State/Florida game and sent these over to me and I distributed them among the injured, oh by the way--they were FSU grads and talk about lifting spirits to see the reaction on! Their faces. It was one of the most heartfelt moments that I can ever remember, not just an FSU memory but something that I will never ever forget. I guess that feeling is what makes FSU mean so much to me and like the memories of friends gone by, it will live on ad infinitum. John G.
