1922
Pearl Essie Cail Smith (A.B.) of Columbia, S.C., a graduate with a major in modern languages, turns 100 on September 9, 1999.

1942
Mart Pierson Hill (A.B.), a Tallahassee philanthropist, received an honorary doctor of humane letters from FSU for extraordinary contributions to the arts and to Florida State. Hill graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in English from Florida State College for Women.

1955
Alan C. Sundberg (B.S.) former Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court and now general counsel to Florida State University, has been selected to receive the American Inns of Court (an organization of lawyers dedicated to ethics and professional conduct) Professionalism Award for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit as the "person who best exemplifies the ideals of the American Inns of Court."

1956
Jack A. Sinclair (B.S.) recently completed a 35-year career, which included 20 years as Cape Publications Supervisor for Pan Am World Services and Computer Sciences Raytheon.

Sarah "Sallie" Hart Brown (B.A.) is an assistant professor of history at Florida Atlantic University.
Sylvia Miller Foster (B.A.), retired from IBM Global Network Services, is now working in Global Support Management for AT&T Solutions in Tampa.
Jerry M. Williamson (M.A., Ph.D. '62) begins his 28th year as president of Gordon College in Barnesville, Ga. His wife is Lynn Simon Williamson (B.A. '62).

1961
N. Gordon Carper (M.A., Ph.D. '64), Berry College Bowl advisor and founder, received the first Dr. N. Gordon Carper Lifetime Achievement Award for 30 years of commitment to academic competition.

1963
Carole Clark Smith (B.S.) has been appointed by Florida Governor Jeb Bush to the Governor's Mansion Commission, the volunteer board that oversees management of the governor's mansion.

1964
Dr. Carlos A. Suarez (B.A.) has been elected president of the South Florida Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.

1965
Dr. Erik L. Collins (B.A., M.A., '66) has been awarded the 1998 Michael Mungo Award given annually by the University of South Carolina for excellence in undergraduate teaching. He teaches media law in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at USC.
Charles R. LaBar (B.A., M.S. '66) works for the city of Las Vegas as a deputy director. He retired as a lieutenant colonel at Nellis AFB in 1986.

1966
Maria Nieves Edmonds (M.S.) is associate provost of the Tarpon Springs Center at St. Petersburg Junior College in Palm Harbor.
Frank K. Lester (B.S., M.S. '67) is on the board of directors of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). Lester is professor of mathematics education and cognitive science at Indiana University.

1967
Barbara J. Glowaski (B.A., M.S. '68) is program director for Social and Behavioral Sciences and the Fine Arts at St. Petersburg Junior College in Palm Harbor.
Bill Proenza (B.A.) is the new director for the 10 states of the Southern Region of the National Weather Service in Ft. Worth, Texas.

1968
Savannah S. Day (Ph.D. '68) received the Distinguished Alum Award from FSU's College of Human Sciences. Day has been one of the most influential housing professionals in the country.
Dr. Richard R.E. Kania (B.A.) is chairman of sociology, social work and criminal justice at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. He recently was a Senior Fulbright Professor at the Central European University in Warsaw, and continues to teach there during the summers.
Col. Donald A. Philpitt (B.S.) is the commandant of the newly activated Air Force Distance Learning Institute at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala. He previously commanded the 435th Airlift Wing at Rhein-Main Air Base, Germany.
Russell G. Thornton (Ph.D.) wrote "STUDYING NATIVE AMERICA: Problems and Prospects," recently published by University of Wisconsin Press.

Diane D. Greer (M.A. '69) is director of cultural resources at FSU.

1970
Thomas J. Padgett (B.A., M.S. '73), an archaeology supervisor for the North Carolina Department of Transportation, received an Environmental Excellence Award for Archaeology from the Federal Highway Administration for his work at an early colonial site in eastern North Carolina.

1971
Cheryl Valentine Helms (B.S.) is director of the the nation's oldest library, Redwood Library and Athenaeum in Newport, R.I., founded in 1747.

1972
Robert R. Jacobs II (J.D.) was recently elected public defender in the 20th Judicial Circuit of Florida (Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry and Lee counties).

1973
John E. Bell (B.A.) has opened John Bell Public Relations Inc. in Plantation, Fla.
Lucinda A. Hofmann (M.S.) is a partner in the law firm of Holland & Knight in Miami. She focuses on appellate advocacy and litigation support.

1974
Charles R. Earnest II (B.S.), president of Dolphin Cotton Co. in Missouri, received the "Ginner of the Year" award from the Southern Cotton Ginners Association.
Tom Gooding (B.S.) is associate general counsel for Griffin L.L.C., an international crop protection company. He will be based in Valdosta, Ga.
Curtis M. King (B.S.) has joined Cooper HMS Partners Advertising in Coral Gables as senior vice president and media director.
Teresa Eggleston Mueller (B.S.) was given the Outstanding Service Award by FSU's College of Human Sciences. She is associate director and chief financial officer of Northwest Assistance Ministries in Houston.
Timothy R. Thornton (J.D.) is on the board of directors of Briggs and Morgan, a professional association in Saint Paul, Minn.. The association provides legal services to business, individuals and governmental clients.

1975
Dr. Howard L. Simmons (Ph.D.), a professor of higher and post secondary education at Arizona State University, has been appointed to the Board of Behavioral Health Examiners by Gov. Jane Dee Hull.

1976
John F. Gilbert (B.S., M.B.A. '78) is vice president of finance and chief financial officer for the Rosie O' Grady's/Church Street Station entertainment complex in Orlando.

1977
Antonio A. Nunez (Ph.D.) is associate dean of Michigan State University's graduate school.
Cmdr. James B. Philpitt (B.S.) recently reported for duty with the J-3 air operations staff of Joint Task Force - Southwest Asia at Eskan Village, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Cdr. Philip "Kem" Siddons (B.S.) retired from active duty with the U.S. Navy after 21 years of commissioned service and was appointed associate vice president of management information systems and decision support at Florida Community College at Jacksonville.

Evelyn A. Pender (M.S.) was named teacher of the year at Kate Sullivan Elementary School in Tallahassee.
Dr. Robert D. Sanborn (B.A.) is vice president for enrollment and student services at the University of Tulsa. Recently a Hampshire College dean, Sanborn was nationally recognized for program innovations integrating academics with student life.

Gregory A. Bennerson (B.S.) of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, is a territory-level senator in the U.S. Virgin Islands. He is the committee chairman of the Government Operations Committee.
Wes R. Yockey (B.S.) is a manufacturer's representative for Jomac Products Personal Protective Equipment Line in Ohio and Michigan.

Dr. Jeri Dee Graham (B.S.N.) is a board-certified optometrist and medical director of Dr. Stern's Visual Health Center in Miami.
Kevin D. Sephton (B.S.) was named Factory Rep of the Year by the Advertising Specialty Institute. He is territory manager covering three mid-South states and 1000 accounts for Bic Graphic USA.
Shannon A. Schunicht (B.A.) will be in the "2000-2001 Marquis Who's Who in Science and Engineering."

Steven M. Brady (B.S.) has been a trial attorney with the Miami law firm Richman, Greer, Weil, Brumbaugh, Mirabito & Christensen P.A. since 1994.
Holly Swartz Kirsch (B.S.) is program director for Public Health Nutrition at the Leon County Health Department. Kirsch received the Outstanding Young Professional Award of FSU's College of Human Sciences.
John M. Methvin (B.A.) is southeastern sales manager for Links Golf Magazine, a national publication.
James T. Watson (B.S., M.S. '85) is a partner in Tallahassee Orthopedic & Sports Physical Therapy, Communicare Wellness Center, and Fitness Etc., all in Tallahassee.

1985
William L. Cool (B.S.) has been promoted to Air Force colonel. A career fighter bomber pilot, he is assigned to the Intelligence Center at Kelly Air Force Base, Texas.

1986
Cdr. Douglas J. Allen (B.S.) is the naval attache for the U.S. Embassy in South Africa. He has flown the F-14 Tomcat in various squadrons.
Susan H. Graham (B.S.) is a banker in the private client services of First Security Bank in Park City, Utah.
Barbara S. Kinosky (B.S.) is joining the Virginia law firm of Williams Mullen Christian & Dobbins.
Stephen A. Winterling (M.S.) started the intercollegiate baseball program at Pasco-Hernando Community College after leaving FSU as an assistant baseball coach. He also teaches health and wellness at PHCC.

Dr. Craig T. Pare (M.M.) is an assistant professor of music and director of university bands at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. He received an Exemplary Teaching Award from the General Board of Higher Education Ministry of the United Methodist Church.

Stephanie Schoder Lynch (B.S.) has joined The Duke Endowment's Foundation staff as an investment officer at its Charlotte headquarters.

Alexis C. Gaston (B.S.) is director of Fitness Etc., a new Tallahassee gym geared toward people coming off physical therapy and other clients.

Richard K. Carter (B.S.) has been named facility manager of The Club at Savannah Harbor, a golf course now under construction as part of the Westin Savannah Harbor Resort Complex on Hutchinson Island.
Rafael Gonzalez (J.D.) practices workers' compensation and social security law in Tampa.
J. Rob Harris (Ph.D.), associate professor of business at Peace College in Raleigh, recently received tenure.

James R. "Roy" Havens (B.S.) is head golf pro at the new Tournament Players Club at Virginia Beach.
Jon M. Lawson (B.S.) is assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise on the Adriatic Sea.
Chris S. Pearson (B.A.) is an Air Force Captain and is assigned to the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Washington, D.C. He is the deputy chief of the Operations Branch for the Treaty on Open Skies.
Caryn Janzer Masterman-Smith (B.S.) has graduated from Midwestern University School of Osteopathic Medicine. She is doing her residency at Miami Children's Hospital.

1st Lt. Scott A. Westerfield (B.A.) completed an exercise in Kuwait while assigned to the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard the ships of the USS Boxer Amphibious Ready Group.

Dimitri N. Diatchenko (M.M.) has a solo guitar CD out now, "Six String-2000." On the May 15 episode of "Walker, Texas Ranger" on CBS, he played the main bad guy.

Bryan S. Gallo (B.S.) received his commission as a naval officer.
Ensign Shaine L. Garrison (B.S.) received his commission as a naval officer after completing Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Naval Aviation Schools Command, Naval Air Station in Pensacola.
Lamarr Glen (B.S.), a fullback, was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the sixth round of the 1999 NFL draft.
