ARTS FESTIVAL COMING TO TOWNYou might think it's a week in New York or Los Angeles. But it's all happening in Tallahassee. Well-known actors, dancers, artists and musicians will perform in a celebration that organizers are planning to call "Tallahassee: Seven Days of Opening Nights." It will kick off February 19. Some of the stars to expect are Danny Glover (well known for his "Lethal Weapon" films), Felix Justice, Canadian Brass, Garth Fagan Dance Company, Judy Chicago and more. "With this performing and arts festival, FSU wants to reach out to the entire Tallahassee community," said Frank Murphy, FSU director of communications. FSU representatives are currently in discussions with officials from the city of Tallahassee, Leon County and the developers of the Southwood Project, a novel "life-long learning community." FSU officials hope the Tallahassee festival is eventually as well known around the country as the Spoleto Arts Festival and Newport Jazz Festival. A preview event of the festival will be held sometime this month at FSU's broadcast center. "We are currently looking at a kickoff event that would be billed
as 'Tallahassee: Seven Days of Opening Nights - The Overture,'" Murphy
said. "This will be a multi-media preview of the festival to which
community leaders of all kinds will be invited." The university also
plans to televise "The Overture" and make it available to television
stations across the country or home satellite owners who wish to see it.
