Jones leaves ghetto for FSU

Imre Friedmann has brought prestige to FSU by studying life in the extreme.

Since Hungarian-born Friedmann arrived on campus in 1968 as an associate professor in biology, he has become world-renowned for discovering microorganisms, or cryptoendoliths, in rocks found in the hottest and coldest climates on earth.

Paper, brushes and watercolors define memories

Professional artist Barbara Mulligan was 5 years old in 1940 when she first saw the old FSU library, now Dodd Hall, and the Westcott building.

Mulligans mother was carrying her FSCW yearbook and was reminiscing about the days she spent on campus. Mulligan was just learning to draw and remembers thinking, "someday I'll be able to paint the Wescott towers."

Secret is out: elderly women are abused too

An old woman lies on the floor until someone comes to move her. Some of her bones are broken. Her body is bruised. Her husband has abused her.

Their daughter denies the abuse, saying they like each other's company.

Though scenes like this happen every day, elder abuse is one of the nation's dirty little secrets. Most of us don't know or don't accept it.
