Florida State begins a new era in women's soccer this year.

Former Canadian National Team member Heather Kerby, 30, will direct the Lady Seminoles' inaugural season, a 20-game schedule including a full slate in the Atlantic Coast Conference, which is regarded as the nation's toughest.

"I can't remember being as excited about starting a training camp as I am this year," Kerby said. "We realize that the team will be faced with many obstacles, but the youth and potential of our players is exciting."

Kerby signed 13 freshmen and one transfer to her first-year roster. Ten signees are from the state of Florida, three from Georgia and one from Canada. The remaining roster spots will be filled after campus tryouts.

Until a soccer stadium can be constructed on FSU's campus, the Lady Seminoles will practice and play home games on a converted intramural field across from Tully Gymnasium.

Spectators will find bleachers, restrooms and concessions at the temporary facility.
