Dr. Shouping Hu

Associate Professor

Shouping Hu is associate professor of higher education at Florida State University. He received a B.S. degree in geography from Peking University and earned his M.S. in economics and Ph.D. in higher education from Indiana University. Dr. Hu's research interests focus on college access and success, student engagement, and higher education policy. His research work has appeared in journals such as the Journal of Higher Education, Research in Higher Education, Review of Higher Education, Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, Journal of College Student Development, Innovative Higher Education, Educational Policy Analysis Archive, Journal of Faculty Development, and Journal of Student Financial Aid. He is the author of "Beyond Grade Inflation: Grading Problems in Higher Education" (Jossey-Bass, 2005) and the lead author of "Reinventing Undergraduate Education: Engaging College Students in Research and Creative Activities" (Jossey-Bass, 2008). His recent research work has been featured by The Chronicle of Higher Education (March 25, 2008) and Inside Higher Ed (May 29, 2008).

Dr. Hu is a recipient of the emerging scholar award from the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) and an editorial board member of Journal of College Student Development and Journal of College and Character. He is currently serving a three-year term (2007-2010) as a standing panel member of the System and Broad Reform Panel of the Institute of Education Science (IES) in the U.S. Department of Education. He has consulted for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Institute of Higher Education Policy (IHEP), MGT of America, and the NCES, among others.
