Application Process: Peace Corps Masters International in Education

Thank you for your interest in the Peace Corps Masters International Education Program at Florida State University. For more information about the program itself, please visit the main Peace Corps Masters International website.

For the purposes of application, potential students must provisionally select between two departments within the College of Education: the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (ELPS), home of the SIDES program, or the Department of Middle and Secondary Education, which develops specialists to teach such subjects as mathematics, science and English. Applicants primarily interested in international development and education, and who may be considering working in the development field, would submit their departmental application materials to the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, while those interested in pursuing a teaching career, whether domestically or abroad, would apply to the Department of Middle and Secondary Education. Upon admission to the PCMI program, students follow the designated PCMI program of study and are not obliged to make their final decision between the ELPS or MSE orientation of their degree until after returning from Peace Corps Service.

Application to the PCMI program entails submitting materials to three entities:

- The United States Peace Corps
- Florida State University Office of Graduate Admissions
- Your education department of interest.

All materials must be received by the appropriate Office or Department before the semester admissions deadline (May 1 for Fall admission; November 1 for Spring admission; March 1 for Summer admission).

Applying to the Peace Corps:

A Peace Corps Application must be completed online.
PCMI applicants must indicate on the online application that they are applying to the Peace Corps Masters International program in Education at Florida State University. There will be a drop-down menu from which this option may be selected. Please be careful not to inadvertently select one of the other PCMI programs offered at FSU.

Application to Peace Corps may be made prior to, during, or after applying to Florida State University, but must be completed by September 15 at the latest in order to begin Peace Corps service the following summer. Applicants are encouraged to visit the Peace Corps website and to read our Frequently Asked Questions page to learn more about service and to gain a sense of their eligibility for the program before applying to the PCMI. For more information, contact the FSU Peace Corps recruiter at PeaceCorps@admin.fsu.edu or (850) 645-1737.

Academic Common Market
Applicants who live in one of sixteen member states of the Southern Regional Educational Board (SREB) may be eligible to pay Florida in-state tuition rates through the Academic Common Market program. Applicants are encouraged to check with their SREB Academic Common Market (ACM) state representative to determine if the MS, EdS or PhD in Sociocultural and International Development Education or the Peace Corps Masters International program qualifies for ACM status in your state of residency. You must receive permission from your state ACM representative before you can be eligible for Florida resident tuition rates. Any additional fees must be paid by the out-of-state student.
