Visiting Days Information
Visiting Days at FSU are scheduled for February 14, 15, and 16, 2010. Check back to this web page for regular updates on Visiting Days.
The Higher Education Visiting Days program is meant to be an introduction to the graduate program, an orientation to the University and its environment, and an opportunity for admitted applicants to the program to interview with assistantship employers from Florida State University and our external agency partners.
Registration:
Once you receive confirmation of your admission to the program, you may register for Visiting Days. A registration fee of $40 for the Visiting Days program helps defray the costs of the event. A $15 late fee will be assessed for anyone registering or paying after February 4th.
Visiting Days Schedule:
Sunday evening there will be a welcome session beginning at 4 p.m. with a reception to follow at 5:30 p.m. in the Florida State University Student Services Building. At this reception, you will have the opportunity to meet one another as well as the faculty, staff & current students who make up our program at FSU. An optional apartment and Tallahassee tour is available earlier in the day on Sunday for those interested. Please stay tuned to emails sent after you have registered for further details.
On Monday, representatives from assistantship sites will be available for interviews. During the interview process, you will have further opportunities to speak with current students about the program, lifestyle & rewards of attending FSU. Monday evening there will be a dinner, which will introduce you to the southern hospitality of Tallahassee and provide you the opportunity to interact face-to-face with faculty, staff and students.
On Tuesday additional interviews will be scheduled through Noon and tours of the campus and the offices of the Division of Student Affairs will be available. This time can also be spent researching housing options in Tallahassee (there will be many suggestions from the current students to guide you in this process).
Hosts:
Several current Higher Education students volunteer as hosts for the Visiting Days program. Hosts are folks gracious enough to open their schedules and homes to give prospective students an insider ' s view of FSU and the Higher Education program, as well as a place to sleep and ground transportation around Tallahassee. Hosts will be assigned on a first-come first-served basis, so please indicate on the registration page if you would like to be connected with a current student.
Attire:
During your time at Visiting Days, you will have the opportunity to make your first professional impression on potential assistantship employers as well as faculty of our program. Dress for interviewing is professional while all other information sessions are business casual. Florida in February can be a delightful escape from the cold of more northern areas but please be aware that unexpected rain showers are a normal occurrence in Tallahassee.
Interviewing:
Interviewing for assistantships can be a nervous experience. We try hard to make the experience as pleasant as possible by providing activities and refreshments during times when you are not in an interview. Make sure to bring plenty of copies of your current resume along with reference lists and any other supporting documents that you think could be helpful during the process in order to make a positive impression on employers.
