Master's Degree - General Administration
This Master's of Science degree focuses on the development of knowledge and competence in the administration and finance of higher education systems and institutions. The non-thesis degree requires a minimum of 45 semester hours of graduate credit. The curriculum for the degree may be adapted to the unique competencies and experiences of the learner, but would generally contemplate the following core courses:
- EDH 5051 Higher Education in America: Basic Understandings 3 (fall term)
- EDH 5931 Special Topics: Current Issues and Applications in College and University Business Administration 3 (spring term)
- EDH 5504 College and University Institutional Advancement 3 (fall term)
- EDH 5405 Legal Aspects 3 (fall term)
- EDH 5406 Ethics and Inquiry 1 (fall term)
- EDH 6081 Leadership and Change in Higher Education 3 (spring term)
- EDH 6401 Public Policy in Higher Education 3 (fall term)
- EDH 6505 Finance in Higher Education 3 (spring term)
- EDA 6635 Organization and Governance of Higher Education 3 (fall term)
In addition, students would meet specialization requirements with a combination of an additional 20 hours selected from the following:
- EDF 5461 Introduction to Program Evaluation 3
- EDF 5400 Basic Descriptive and Inferential Statistics 4
- ACG 5026 Financial Reporting and Managerial Control 4 Prerequisites for this course are ACG 2021 Financial Accounting and FIN 3403 Financial Management. Graduate students may consider completing an online MBA primer as an option to the prerequisites. This primer is available thorough the Business School at a modest charge and consists of self-paced modules, including accounting and finance. - MAN 5716 Business Conditions Analyses 3 (Economics background recommended, but may be available with the consent of instructor.) (fall term)
- RMI 5810 Financial Planning and Investments 4 (This course will be available beginning spring 2009.) or RMI 5136 Benefits (summer and spring terms)
- ISM 5021 Information and Technology Management 3 (on-line)
- EDH 5942 Internship 3-5
Students with an interest in university business operations may wish to include AGC 5026, MAN 5716 and ISM 5021 in the program of study. Students with an interest in institutional advancement may wish to consider EDF 5461, EDF 5400 and ISM 5021 in the program of study.
