Master's Degree - General Administration
The master's degree with emphasis in general administration prepares students to work in higher education administrative positions that emphasize one of three discrete specializations: financial management, institutional research, or educational policy. This degree is designed for individuals interested in positions related to development and alumni affairs, business management, auxiliary enterprises, student financial services, institutional research, and athletics administration. Graduates may also be employed as state legislative committee staff members or in other educational policy analyst positions. Elective courses in other units of the university, such as the College of Business and/or the School of Public and Urban Policy, may be included in the program of study for this degree.Degree Requirements
This degree requires a minimum of 40 hours of course work, including 22 hours of required courses and 18 hours of electives. For students who are not currently employed in a higher education setting or who have no experience in higher education administration, additional internship hours may be required.Professional Portfolio
All master's degree students are required to prepare a
professional portfolio as a capstone experience that should be
presented during the last semester of the student's enrollment.
In the general administration emphasis, the portfolio
requirement is introduced in the course, EDH 5931 Special Topics:
Current Issues and Applications in College and University
Business Administration. The portfolio is evaluated
independently by a faculty committee in the final semester prior
to graduation.
