Master's Degree - General Administration With Emphasis in Higher Education
Administration and Finance
This Master's of Science degree focuses on the development of knowledge and
competence in the administration and finance of higher education systems and institutions. The non-thesis degree requires 46 semester hours of graduate credit. This degree emphasis is adaptable to the unique competencies and experiences of the learner and generally includes the following core courses:
- EDH 5051 Basic Understandings 3
- EDH 5931 Special Topics: Current Issues and Applications in College and University Business Administration 3
- EDH 5405 Legal Aspects 3
- EDH 5406 Ethics and Inquiry 1
- EDH 5505 Finance in Higher Education 3
- EDA 5506 Organization and Governance of Higher Education 3
- EDH 5631 Academic Leadership and Middle Management 3
- EDH 5068 Outcomes of Undergraduate Education 3
- EDH 5081 Leading Change in Higher Education 3
- SDS 5624 The American College Student 3
In addition, students would meet specialization requirements with a combination of an additional 18 hours selected from
the following:
- EDF 5461 Introduction to Program Evaluation 3 or
- EDF 5481 Methods of Educational Research 3
- ACG 5308 Accounting Concepts for Managerial Control 3 (requires prerequisites in ACG 2021 Financial Accounting and FIN 3403
Financial Management)
- EDA 6101 Organizational Theory 3 or
- MAN 5245 Organizational Behavior 3
- MAN 5716 Business Conditions Analyses 3
- MAN 5721 Strategy and Business Policy 3
- FIN 5515 Investment Management and Analysis 3
- ISM 5021 Information and Technology Management 3
- EDH 5942 Internship 3-5
At the completion of the program, students would receive a certificate in higher education financial management issued
by Florida State University. The certificate would signify mastery of the essentials of higher education financial management.
Although a master's program consisting of 46 semester hours is contemplated, the course content could be articulated with a doctoral
degree in higher education for those who already have a Master's degree.
