Application and Admissions
Applicants to Florida State University may apply using
online access to the Office of Admissions. Applicants may access the
online graduate
application form as well as pay the application fee online.
Florida State University requires the following:
- A completed graduate application.
- Submission of recent GRE scores or documentation of previous scores
(verbal and quantitative).
- Submission of two copies of official transcripts from each college or
university attended.
- Complete the Florida residency form.
- Payment of the $30.00 application fee.
FSU requires either a 3.0 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale for the last 60
semester hours of the applicants' undergraduate program, or 1000 on the
GRE (quantitative and verbal sections). If the applicant has the requisite
3.0 GPA, then less than 1000 on the GRE may be acceptable. Submission of
GRE scores is a university requirement that will not be waived. Note that
our admissions committee takes into consideration the total person with
emphasis on work experience and career aspirations, as well as test scores
and GPA.
Complete the Online
Supplemental Application which is required of all applicants to the
HRD distance learning program.
Academic Common Market
Applicants who live within the sixteen-state Southern Regional Educational Board (SREB) may be eligible to pay Floirida instate tuition rates (http://www.sreb.org/). Applicants are encouraged to check with their SREB Academic Common Market (ACM) state representative (http://www.sreb.org/programs/acm/acmindex.asp) to determine if the MS, EdS or Certiificate in Human Resource Development qualifies in your state for ACM status. You must recieve permission from your state ACM representative before you can be eligible for Florida resident tuition rates (any additional fees must be paid by the out-of-state student).
The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy
Studies requires the following additional information for applicants to
the MS degree in Adult Education with specialization in HRD:
- Statement of Purpose - A statement of purpose should be no more than
two pages in length. It should indicate your academic and professional
goals and aspirations, and other information which attests to your
commitment and ability to complete graduate study program successfully.
References to previous work and educational experience related to your
stated goals are useful.
- Three Letters of Recommendation - Letters of recommendation should be
written by persons who are in a position to comment on the
probability of
your to success in the Department. Letters from former faculty
members are encouraged. Letters have been found to be the most useful when
they specifically state the basis of the writer's knowledge about your
academic abilities, the type and quality of activities you have been
involved with in association with the individual making the
recommendation, and reasons for the writer's support of your proposed
graduate studies.
- The statement of purpose and letters of recommendation should be sent

Students who are admitted as special students through the
FSU Office of Graduate Admissions are allowed to register for limited
graduate coursework. Up to twelve hours grades B or higher may be
transferred to the MS degree in Human Resource Development.
Applicants must pay an application fee of $30, submit
official transcripts from colleges and universities attended, complete the
Florida residency form, and complete the special student application form.
Scores from the GRE need not be submitted for admission as a special
student.
Students who are accepted for the HRD Certificate must
first be admitted as a special student or already be admitted as a
graduate student at FSU. Application may be completed online. The
formal deadline for making application for fall 2005 as a special student
is July 1, 2005. Applicants who miss this deadline should contact Ms.
Tracey Bestor at the FSU Center for Professional Development (850-644-7551
or email tbestor@campus.fsu.edu) for
assistance.
Application for the Human Resource Development Certificate
may be accessed here. The form
may be mailed to Coordinator, Certificate in HRD Program, College of
Education, 114A Stone Building, Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL
