Studio Projects Done By Students

The Future of Transit in Tallahassee is in Our Hands

The existing TalTran fixed route services are two systems: one serving campuses and students with specific shuttle services; the other being general services not associated with the campus shuttles, but also used extensively by the student population. The fall 2004 FSU DURP studio project was undertaken to consider the development of the TalTran general fixed route services for the period 2003 to 2020, but not campus shuttle services or demand response services. Never before has there been a similar long-range visioning of transit in Tallahassee.

The conceptual methodology of the studio was to involve transit stakeholders in a process that explained cost-constrained visions for transit in the Tallahassee area in 2020 and used stakeholder response to shape the final recommendations. Hybrid value focused thinking was the group decision making model used to determine community transit priorities. This was implemented through four meetings held between September and November of 2004. A preliminary findings document was prepared for February 2005 and the remaining work was completed thereafter.
