Employer Recruitment VisitsThe Department
of Urban and Regional Planning routinely hosts visits from firms and agencies
to promote their planning activities and projects, and to meet current
students in the program. These events are an excellent opportunity to connect
with prospective employees and to raise the visibility of your firm or agency.
These visits also represent an opportunity to meet with faculty to discuss projects
and possibilities for collaborative work. Additionally, firms have
begun to use these recruitment visits as essential to connecting with and
hiring our best students, many of whom receive job offers in the
months prior to graduation. Employer
recruitment visits typically consist of two different events. 1) A
general overview of the firm or agency that typically involves a
presentation of the types of projects and work that they do. These events
are open to all graduate students and faculty. DURP arranges for a room,
advertises the event, and manages the sign-up process. Some firms have
also provided refreshments for these events, but this is not required. 2) Formal
or informal interviews with students interested in meeting with representatives
of the firm or agency. DURP arranges space for these meetings and manages
the sign-up process. DURP can also obtain and pre-screen resumes. To
