Research Centers
A variety of specialized research centers exist both within the College and elsewhere within the University that have particular relevance to the work of the Department. Especially important is the Institute of Science and Public Affairs, a university-wide organization that provides administrative and support services for the University's efforts in applied research and public service. The Institute is composed of a number of centers in which specialists from such fields as planning, economics, law, public administration, chemistry, biology, and business, among others, participate in programs of education, training, and research focused on important local, state, and national policy issues. Among the separate centers comprising the Institute are the Florida Resources and Environmental Analysis Center, Center for Biomedical and Toxicological Research and Hazardous Waste Management, Florida Center for Public Management, Center for Aquatic Research and Resource management, Home Hoyt Center for Land Economics and Real Estate, Beaches and Shores Resource Center, Environmental Hazards Center, Center for Economic Forecasting and Analysis, The Florida Conflict Resolution Consortium, and Center for comparative Development Administration. Also significant is the Learning Systems Institute which conducts educational planning work in many international settings, and the Florida Institute for Marketing Alternative Transportation which researches public acceptance of mass transit. Within the College of Social Sciences, centers and programs with which the Department maintains close ties include the Center for the Study of Population , Claude Pepper Institute on Aging , International Affairs Program, DeVoe L. Moore and Family Center for the Study of Critical Issues in Economic Policy and Government, Survey Research Center, and the Black Studies Program.
