Libraries
The Robert Manning Strozier and Paul Dirac Libraries are located near the center of the campus. The volume holdings total over 2,000,000 books and periodicals, over 900,000 government documents, more than 8,000 films, videos, and DVDs, and over 6,500,000 microforms. In addition, students, faculty, and staff have access to over 350 subscription databases, 17,000 e-books, and more than 10,000 electronic journals covering a wide variety of subjects, that can be viewed from offices, dormitories, and other remote locations. The library is a member of the Center for Research Libraries whose purpose is to make available materials needed for research which are not owned by the member library. The library is a charter member of the Southeastern Library Network. The library is a depository for federal documents of the United States and Canada, as well as for documents of the United States and Canada, as well as for documents of the United Nations and UNESCO. The library subscribes to over 10,000 periodicals and serials. Bibliographic subject searches are provided at cost through a computer terminal located in the Reference Department and in the Science-Technology Division. There are many data bases in the sciences and social sciences. Most of the collection is accessible via LUIS, the online computer library catalog. The library has a Micromaterials Center which includes facilities for making reproduction for printed and microfilmed materials. The Micromaterials Center contains over 4,200,000 microforms including film, cards, and fiche. In addition, other educational media are available. It is possible for individuals, as a part of their course of study, to listen to tape recordings, or to interact with a computer through terminals, using PLATO. Video tape and slide-tape presentations, may be viewed at the Instructional Support Center in the William Johnston Building. The Special Collections Division includes manuscripts, rare books, and the Florida Collection of books. The Law Library in the College of Law has over 137,000 catalogued titles.
