FAQs
WHAT IS "DEGREE IN THREE" AND WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Degree in Three is a special program that assists students who wish to graduate in less than the traditional four years. It offers special advising, assistance in developing a program of study, and priority registration. Though anyone may choose to participate, it is most appropriate for students who bring to FSU college credit (AP/IB/Dual Enrollment) applicable to their major of choice.
HOW DO I KNOW IF THIS PROGRAM IS CORRECT FOR ME ?
Degree in Three may be perfect for you. It is crucial, however, to consider your talents and academic goals, combined with university and program requirements in making this decision. Majors which require "heavy" academic loads and/or many specific entrance requirements pose special challenges to an accelerated degree plan. Many academically talented students with diverse interests prefer a traditional-length program which permits them to take a variety of courses while actively participating in extracurricular activities. You need to decide what is the correct approach for you.
DOES FSU PROMISE A DEGREE IN THREE YEARS ?
No. FSU promises the TOOLS to develop a plan (program of study) that may lead to graduation in three years. These tools include academic advising to meet program and graduation requirements and priority registration. Graduating in three years depends on a student's individual motivation, number and type of college credits earned prior to enrollment and how these credits relate to university and major requirements.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I WANT TO STAY AT FSU LONGER?
We will commend you on your decision. The university experience for many individuals is so enriching that they are compelled to broaden their total experience while they are here and choose a four-year degree. Others become committed to an area of study and choose to begin a graduate or professional degree in their fourth year.
WHAT ABOUT LIMITED ACCESS MAJORS ?
Because they cannot provide for all interested students, some majors must limit enrollment. Degree in Three students will be advised regarding special admission requirements and deadlines, but must meet the same requirements as all other students to gain access to these majors.
WILL COMPLETING A DEGREE IN THREE ASSURE ME PRIORITY IN ADMISSION TO GRADUATE OR PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL ?
No. However, you will have the opportunity to meet many faculty and staff in your area of interest to learn what will make you a strong candidate for admission to graduate or professional study. In addition, Degree in Three will offer special programs on admission to graduate and professional programs.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN AT ORIENTATION?
At Orientation you will meet with an advisor in your chosen major to plan your first term academic schedule. Please bring with you a list of earned or anticipated college credit (AP/IB/Dual enrollment) as these may not yet be posted on your FSU transcript and are important in planning your initial course schedule. The Degree in Three program will begin in September with a required meeting. Be sure to open your FSU computer ( Garnet ) account and check it regularly.
