From the Dean

The College is a unique combination of six academic departments: Art, Art History, Art Education, Dance, Interior Design, and Theatre. Another one of its unique characteristics is its ties to the museum world through the FSU museums-the Museum of Fine Arts on campus and The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota. These museums and additional specialized museum-related programs within each department enrich our curriculum and offer students a broad range of very special learning opportunities. We also offer programs around the world at our international sites, most notably London, Paris, Florence, and Valencia.

Our world-class faculty of practicing artists, actors, dancers, designers, historians, art educators, art therapists, and interior designers are dedicated to providing students with the tools, knowledge, and resources that will help them find their own path to success. Believing that success is dependent on both creative vision and technical expertise, the College encourages excellence, critical inquiry, and experimentation. We are committed to nurturing the individual talents of our students and preparing them for rewarding careers.

The College is a close-knit community of faculty, students, and professionals that functions largely as an arts conservatory. Our facilities include workshops for arts of all media, individual art studios, state-of-the-art computer laboratories, art history and theatre resource centers, and a newly renovated building with the nation's best university dance facilities. Being one of the most “wired” universities in the United States, all Florida State students have lifetime email accounts and wireless Internet access. However, wanting only the best, we are constantly striving to improve our facilities and our programs.

The arts have the capacity to reach people from varied backgrounds, ages, and cultures in ways few other disciplines can. They fundamentally enrich existence and have the power to change lives for the better. It is our intention that everything we do at the College of Visual Arts, Theatre & Dance will have a positive influence on our students and ultimately make a difference in our ever-changing and challenging world. We look forward to having you join our family of students, faculty and staff, all of whom are dedicated to enriching lives though the visual arts, theatre and dance.
