With the Preparing Tomorrow's Teacher's to Use Technology grant, the Florida State University College of Education receives support through the Capacity-Building Grant Program of the U.S. Department of Education to address the needs of the State of Florida in terms of supplying qualified teachers who can be effective with integrating
advanced technologies into school curricula. This mission is consistent with the School Technology and Readiness (STAR) Report (The CEO Forum on Education and Technology, 1999), in which the nation's top business executives set forth specific recommendations that address issues of technology for teacher preparation institutions. The grant builds productive partnerships with local and state educational agencies and private sector groups to restructure the teacher preparation programs of Florida State University (FSU). Specifically, through the grant, a comprehensive needs assessment will be conducted of FSU faculty in the Colleges of Education and Arts and Sciences regarding their knowledge skills in and use of instructional technology. Once these analyses are complete, the project will develop new products, provide professional development and collaborate with partners in the development of a phase II implementation proposal.
