The Florida Academies for Excellence in Teaching is a collaborative partnership model for professional development to support school reform in Florida. The current Florida Academies for Excellence in Teaching are supported through a $1.5 million dollar allocation to the Florida Department of Education from Goals 2000 federal funding.
The Florida Academies for Excellence in Teaching model was originally established in 1993 and currently there are five Academy sites. These sites were selected through a competitive bid process that included review by a team of outside reviewers representative of stakeholders from the school community.
The Florida Academies for Excellence in Teaching provide technical assistance to the five Academies for:
Planning product development,
Initiating school-wide action research,
Program implementation, and
Program evaluation.
