The Education Standards Commission (ESC) is an appointed body of 24 practicing educators and citizens who examine current educational issues and make recommendations which strengthen education as a profession in Florida. Subject Matter Standards Development purpose is to describe in standard format the knowledge base teachers need to possess and be able to demonstrate in their subject field in order to be certified as "ready to teach" and "ready for licensure/certification".
Services provided by the Center include:
Literature review for input in Standards development,
Examination of Sunshine State Standards, existing certification
Focus group reviews and revision of tentative list,
National validation of Subject Matter Competencies,
Survey preparation and data collection, and
Preparation and recommendation on Subject Matter Content to the ESC.
