SPS 5945 Practicum in School Psychology
(3 Credits)
General Course Objectives
To provide supervised field experience in school psychology with the objectives of developing skills and provide experiences in:

Multidisciplinary Center
The FSU Multidisciplinary Center provides assessment, consultative, and intervention services to children, adolescents, and adults who present a wide range of learning and developmental problems. The focus for the school psychology practicum students will be with children and adolescents and for school-related problems. The Center also provides direct services to local public schools, including Florida High.
Grading Criteria and Types of Assessment Measures
1. A minimum of 10 hours per week is required for the semester with a minimum total of 125 hours for the semester, 250 hours for the two semesters. It is anticipated that your experience will go beyond these minimums. Included in this time will be:
2. All students will be required to complete a minimum of five assessment cases and at least one intervention case during the year.
3. Attendance at the required practicum seminar. This seminar will be based on cases, problems, and situations encountered during your practicum experiences. All students will be required to do case presentations that will be the basis of class discussions. Both presenters and discussants will be expected to address the following issues in the discussions:
Grading Criteria
The practicum is graded S/U and will be determined based input from the clinical supervisors and the instructor. At the conclusion of the 2nd semester, all students will be evaluated generally on an "internship readiness" dimension. Attendance is expected at the practicum seminar and at Center designated functions. Students will submit a log of their experiences for each semester to document their hours and experiences--see attached Practicum Log form. All students will also be evaluated each semester by their supervisor on the Practicum Student Rating Form, also attached.
Students with any type of disability that may interfere with learning in this class should negotiate a reasonable accommodation with the instructor early in the semester.
