The Langford Family Eminent Scholar Chair was
established in 1992 by George and Marian Langford and their sons Lawton
Langford and G. Robertson Langford, Jr. This endowment allows the Department
of Classics to inivite to campus for one semester scholars of international
standing. The Langford Scholar teaches one undergraduate and one graduate
course, and in conjunction with the department hosts an academic conference
devoted to his or her research interests. In addition, beginning in Fall 2001
the Department of Classics has hosted the Langford Latin Seminars under
the direction of Professor Francis Cairns.
