VIETNAM: HO CHI
MINH CITY
Summer Program
A small country which has loomed large on the world's stage, Vietnam
is an ancient civilization of distinctive identity-both preserved
and transformed as many cultures have clashed over its soil. The Vietnam
study program is a singular educational opportunity at a singular
historical moment. No previous Vietnamese language study is required.
Distinct among Southeast Asian countries, twenty-first-century Vietnam
has preserved its ancient and colonial architecture and pristine coastline.
Today, so much of the exotic and beautiful remains, yet so much is
changing, new, and exciting as this friendly Asian society reinvents
itself and its economy. COURSEWORK
AND EXCURSIONS
Students will both live history and study it: witnesses of a transformation
in progress, scholars of a complex culture. FSU's affiliation with
Vietnam National University in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) ensures
exceptional courses in Vietnamese civilization and language. Another
highlight is the Ho Chi Minh Conservatory of Music's collaboration
in a study of Asian musical traditions.
Excursions near and distant will bring classroom
topics alive. Class schedules allow for field trips to the city's
cultural treasures (Independence Palace, the history and military
museums, Notre Dame Cathedral, Chinatown, and much more). Weekend
guided trips to the Mekong Delta, the Cu Chi tunnel complex, the
Cao Dai Temple at Tay Ninh, and other major sites open a panorama
of natural and human wonders: river and farm life, mountains, sculpture,
the mausoleums of monarchs.

Students will live in a full-service, five-star hotel in Saigon
(double occupancy) and will enjoy a full breakfast buffet daily.
The hotel offers excellent exercise facilities, including a pool,
as well as several restaurants.
