Asian Studies Admissions Standards

A candidate is admitted to the program by meeting the University's general requirements for graduate admission and by recommendation of the director and advisory committee of the program. All applicants must take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) (verbal, quantitative and writing portions) prior to admission to the program. The minimum guidelines for admission to the program are an upper division (junior and senior) grade point average of 3.0 or better and a minimum combined score of 1000 on the GRE. Higher attainment on one measure may offset lower attainment on another. These indicators are considered along with other evidence of preparation including letters or recommendation and a personal statement. It is recommended that the student have undergraduate preparation in those fields where graduate work is contemplated. The application deadline for regular graduate admission is July 1 for the fall term beginning late August; Nov 1 for the spring term beginning early January; and March 1 for the summer term beginning early May.
