As director of the hugely influential Sundance Film Festival for the past 18 years, Geoffrey Gilmore has exerted an unparalleled influence on the American film scene.
Gilmore is responsible for the film selection and overall artistic direction of the festival, which has become the biggest movie-happening in America, a place where careers are made on an annual basis – a very brief list of films that broke out at Sundance could include Reservoir Dogs, Ruby in Paradise, El Mariachi, Sex Lies & Videotape, Clerks, Hoop Dreams, Hedwig & the Angry Inch, American Splendor, Hustle & Flow, Memento, Paris Texas, 28 Days Later and Napoleon Dynamite. Last year’s Sundance hit, Little Miss Sunshine, ended up earning millions of dollars and a slew of Academy Award nominations.
