Sculpture

The goal of the FSU sculpture area is to educate our undergraduate and graduate students in all realms of traditional, contemporary and alternative sculptural methods and techniques.

Facilities & Special Equipment

Sculpture facilities consist of a wood shop, metal fabrication, foundry, and stone yard. The wood shop is equipped with a table saw, compound miter saw, band saws, joiner, router table, and planer. The foundry has the capabilities for bronze, aluminum, and iron. We are equipped with two number 60 blast furnaces, several cupolas for casting iron and a 2-ton overhead crane. Mould making capabilities include traditional investment for lost wax, resin bonded sand, and ceramic shell. The metal fabrication area is equipped with 2 MIG welders, plasma cutter, TIG welder, stick welder, and oxy-acetylene stations. Metal shaping equipment includes one gas forge, one coal forge, a power hammer, a planishing hammer, a 16-gauge roller, two breaks, a foot shear, and a 15-ton hydraulic press. The stone yard materials include Carrera marble and alabaster.
