Frequently Asked Questions for Scholarships

Q: How can I apply for a scholarship?
All accepted applicants are automatically considered for an academic scholarship. A scholarship application is not necessary.

Q: How much money is awarded for a University Freshman Scholarship?
The University Freshman Scholarship is $9,600; $1,200 per semester for eight semesters.

Q: How much money is awarded for a Freshman Incentive Scholarship?
The Freshman Incentive Scholarship is $8,000; $1,000 per semester for eight semesters.

Q: How much money is awarded for a 21st Century Scholarship?
The 21st Century Scholarship is $8,000; $1,000 per semester for eight semesters.

Q: Can I receive more than one admissions scholarship?
Only one scholarship will be awarded per eligible student.

Q: Does Florida State offer the National Merit Scholarship?
The Office of Admissions offers a limited number of scholarships to National Merit Finalists, National Achievement Finalists, and National Hispanic Scholars. Please contact our office for more information.

Q: The scholarship requires I take a minimum of 12 hours each term, and that I take 28 total hours. How is that possible?
To meet the hour requirement, you may take any combination of hours to equal 28 total hours for the fall and spring term (i.e. 12 + 16, 15 + 13, 14 + 14, etc.).

Q: I received a merit-based scholarship from FSU -how does that affect my Bright Futures?
An admissions scholarship is in addition to any other scholarships you may be receiving.

Q: What can I use my scholarship for?
The admissions scholarship may be used to pay any expenses you have at FSU (tuition, meals, housing, books, etc.). An admissions scholarship is in addition to any other scholarships you may be receiving. If you already have an excess of funding, the remaining amount of your admission scholarship will be reimbursed to you in the form of a check or direct deposit if you have a SunTrust account.

Q: How is my scholarship disbursed?
Disbursement occurs during the second week of classes of each academic term. Your scholarship will be used to pay for any outstanding accounts you have at FSU. If you have an excess of funding, the remaining amount of your admission scholarship will be reimbursed to you in the form of a check or direct deposit if you have a SunTrust account.

Q: Do I need a SunTrust Account in order to receive my scholarship?
No, but in order to receive your funding through direct deposit, you will need to have a SunTrust account.

Q: When will my scholarship be disbursed?
Disbursement occurs during the second week of classes of each academic term.
