Q: Can I visit the campus and speak to Admissions Officers?

To schedule a visit please go to http://visit.fsu.edu/. The "Visit Suggestions" section can help plan your visit.

Q: How do I apply?

Prospective freshman and transfer students should complete an application, pay the $30 (U.S. dollars) fee, and send official copies of high school transcripts and SAT/ACT scores. Transfer students also need to send college transcripts from each institution attended.

Graduate students should complete the University application, pay the $30 (U.S dollars) fee, and send two copies of official transcripts from all postsecondary institutions. Graduate students should also contact the department to which they are applying regarding additional application materials and procedures.

Q: When should I apply?

For freshmen, sometime between September and December of your senior year is preferred. A more detailed description of the undergraduate application timeline is offered here.

Transfer applicants can apply up to one year in advance of their application term. It is recommended that students apply well in advance of the deadline.

Graduate applicants should check with the department to which they are applying regarding program deadlines as they may differ from the University's application deadline.

Q: What are your freshman requirements?

You can find a complete list of requirements - including high school courses and minimum GPA and test scores - here.

Q: What are your transfer requirements?

Degree Mapping is FSU's academic advising and monitoring system that provides students with a recommended eight semester map for each major. The map is a plan for completing the bachelor's degree in four years for most programs. Students must meet certain minimum requirements each semester known as "milestones". Milestones may include a minimum GPA and/or completion of specific classes. These milestones are identified on each major map and can be found at http://www.academic-guide.fsu.edu. You can find a complete list of requirements here. Please note, however, that meeting minimum admissions requirements does not guarantee admission.

Q: Are Honors, AP, IB, and AICE classes weighed?

Yes. Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, AICE, and Dual Enrollment courses in which you receive a C or better are weighted a full point; Academic Honors, Pacesetter, pre-AP, pre-IB, and pre-AICE a half point.

Q: Do you average my SAT/ACT scores?

We use the highest combination of subscores to compute your SAT total and ACT composite.

Q: Do I need to submit an essay?

The essay is an important part of your application. It assists the University in learning about you as an individual, independent of your academic grade point average, test scores, and other objective data. Your essay should be no longer than 500 words.

For almost one hundred years, the Latin words, "Vires, Artes, Mores" have been the guiding philosophy behind Florida State University. Vires signifies strength of all kinds - moral, physical, and intellectual; Artes alludes to the beauty of intellectual pursuits as exemplified in skill, craft, or art; and Mores refers to character, custom, or tradition. Describe how one or more of the values embodied in these concepts are reflected in your life.

Please submit your essay online using the essay tool after submitting your application.

Q: Are interviews or letters of recommendation required?

We do not require interviews or letters of recommendation for undergraduate applicants. Graduate applicants, on the other hand, should contact the department to which they are applying regarding additional application materials and procedures.

Q: Is it easier to be admitted for the summer?

Our standards are basically the same, but since demand is less, students not quite meeting our fall requirements have a better chance of receiving favorable consideration.

Q: Do you have rolling admission?

Not for freshman summer and fall applicants. We have replaced rolling admission for freshman with specific notification dates throughout the admission cycle. All other applicants will be notified once their complete application has been processed. Graduate decisions are dependant upon their academic department.
