Town Hall meeting on budget crisis draws large crowd

Florida State University President T.K. Wetherell held a "town hall" webcast and meeting with members of the university community on Tuesday, April 21, to discuss Florida State's budget crisis in light of anticipated funding cuts from the state Legislature.

Hundreds of concerned students, faculty, staff and members of the university attended in person at the Student Life Building and numerous others viewed the webcast of the event. A panel of administrators responded to questions and comments regarding proposed closing of university programs and other cutbacks.

The goal of the town hall meeting was to make sure that all members of the Florida State community have the same information regarding the university's budget challenges and plans for the future.

Wetherell encouraged all concerned members of the Florida State community to contact Governor Crist (850-488-7146, Charlie.Crist@ MyFlorida.com), Speaker of the House Larry Cretul (850-488-1450, Larry.Cretul@myfloridahouse.gov), President of the Senate Jeff Atwater (850-487-5100, atwater.jeff.web@flsenate.gov), House Appropriations Chairman David Rivera (850-488-7897, David.Rivera@myfloridahouse.gov) , Senate Appropriation Chair J.D. Alexander (850-487-5044, alexander.jd.web@flsenate.gov), local legislators and local media.
