The Florida State University International Center's monthly meeting known as "Global Gatherings" will encompass more than discussion on international topics and issues when it hosts "Performing With The Stars: Connecting Tallahassee to the World Through Dance" on March 22 at FSU's Oglesby Union.
The midday event is free and open to the public. It will feature local luminaries from the world of dance who will showcase ballroom style dances ranging from the Tango and the Waltz to Bolero, Chacha, Foxtrot, Showdance, Quickstep, Salsa and Swing.
FSU's own Associate Professor of English Caroline "Kay" Picart will headline—she is a nationally recognized dancer and ranks second in the U.S.-World pro-amateur Cabaret Division of DanceSport. Picart will be joined by dancers from Fred Astaire Dance Studio, led by Darien Chancellor; Azucar, FSUšs first Hispanic dance organization; FSU Ballroom Club; Tallahassee Community College Dance Company; Argentine Tango Society; and Tallahassee Swing Club.
The event will be videotaped live by 4FSU and rebroadcast on Sundays at 9 p.m. and Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
