FSU's baseball star Posey named Academic All-American of the Year

Florida State catcher Buster Posey, just drafted by the San Francisco Giants, has received honors as the Academic All-American of the Year. He is the second FSU student-athlete ever to win Academic All-American of the Year.

In the classroom, Posey is a two-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll and was named to the All-ACC Academic Team in 2006 and 2007. "It's gratifying," said Posey on receiving this award. "I've put in a lot of effort off the field with school and hopefully it can be a good example for younger kids out there that you can accomplish both school and athletics. It definitely takes discipline, but doing well in school is something I take pride in."

Posey, of Leesburg, Ga., was also named a first team All-American by CoSIDA, in conjunction with ESPN the Magazine. He has also has been named a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award, Johnny Bench Award and Dick Howser Trophy, while also being added to the Brooks Wallace Award Revised Watch List. He also added ACC Player of the Year accolades to his list of honors.

The 2008 ACC Player of the Year, Posey leads the NCAA in batting average (.472), on base percentage (.572) and slugging percentage (.908).
