New Theatre dean
Nancy Smith Fichter is interim dean of the School of Theatre.
John Deal, acting dean left in August to become the dean of the
University of North Carolina-Greensboro School of Music.
"The School of Theatre is arguably one of the programs of true excellence on campus," she said.
Smith Fichter led the FSU dance department for 45 years, retiring in 1997. Under her guidance, the program gained national prominence and offered the first degrees in dance in the Southeast.
She
also helped dance find its place as an academic discipline.
