Edward N. Wright, an experienced education administrator with a strong interest in Panama City, will take over in January as dean of the FSU Panama City Campus.
He will lead the campus during a major planned expansion.
"He has very good administrative experience," said John Mayo, dean of the FSU College of Communication, who was chairman of the search committee for the position.

Mayo said Wright was chosen from a "superb pool" of applicants in part because of his ties to Panama City and the good impression he made on the local members of the search committee.
Wright is now dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Southern Colorado in Pueblo.
He has also taught and directed the department of political science at the Air Force Academy and worked as an advisor to the Pentagon.

Wright

FSU President Sandy D'Alem-berte announced Wright's appointment in August, along with the anticipated infusion of more than $1 million to double the number of resident faculty members and move toward adding daytime classes at the campus.

"Along with a new dean come new resources," he said. "Florida State University is committed to an expansion at our Panama City Campus, and we have significant funding to make this happen."

" This additional funding will yield more than $1 million for the FSU Panama City Campus," D'Alemberte said. "I think we've been treated very generously by the Chancellor and the Board of Regents."

Wright takes the position held by former dean Larson Bland, who retired in 1998 after serving as dean since the campus became a branch of FSU in 1982.
Wright's ties to the Panama City community span more than two decades.
He has lectured at Gulf Coast Community College and has participated in a variety of programs sponsored by the Citizen Leadership Institute.

In addition to his record of service as an academic administrator, Wright has spent many years at research interests in presidential policy making.
