Sister Mary Michelle Carroll (B.S.) was honored by St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta for her lifetime of work in the field of education. The hospital dedicated the newly enlarged and expanded education center to her. It is now called The Carroll Conference and Education Center.

1957

Dr. Edna Runnels Ranck (B.A.) is the director of the Office of Public Policy and Research, National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies, in Washington, D.C.

1959

Dr. Elizabeth R. Rylan (B.A., M.S. '67) received a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., and is currently teaching at Columbia College in Chicago, Ill.

1961

Betty Lentz Siegel (Ph.D.) is the president of Kennesaw State University.

1962

E. Doug Ibold (B.S.) is an editor on the television show "Trinity."

Carl M. Kuttler Jr. (B.S.) is the president of St. Petersburg Junior College. He was named Chief Executive Officer of the Year (outstanding community college president) by the National Association of Community College Trustees in Washington, D.C.

1963

Adm. (Ret.) Paul D. Miller (B.S. ) has been named chairman of the board of directors and chief executive officer of Alliant Techsystems. He will also serve as chairman of the executive/finance committee of the board. In his 30 year career in the U.S. Navy, Miller was Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Atlantic Command, one of five U.S. theater commands, and served concurrently as NATO Supreme Allied Commander-Atlantic. Other assignments during his Navy career included Commander, U.S. Atlantic Fleet, Commander, U.S. Seventh Fleet, and Deputy Chief of Naval Operations (Naval warfare).

1967

Elaine Crum Sullivan (B.A.) worked with the FSU educational leadership faculty and graduate students as a visiting clinical professor.

1968

William C. Davis (B.A. ) has been named to the Host Committee for Super Bowl XXXIII, which was played on Jan. 31, 1999, in Pro Player Stadium in Miami.

1969

Mel. R. Martinez (B.A., J.D. '73) became the second county chairman of Orange County, Florida.

1970

George O. Hedge Jr. (B.S.) was appointed manager of Aim Caribbean Express Inc., Jacksonville terminal. Aim is an ocean freight consolidator and distributor.

1971

Karen E. Schadow (B.A., M.A. '73) is working on The Regis and Kathy Lee Show as a camera operator.

1972

James F. Vickrey (Ph.D.) has been named chairman of Troy State University's department of speech and theatre.

Don R. Wilkinson (B.S.) has been named vice president-agency development of Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Milwaukee, Wisc.

Michael J. Wright (B.S., M.S.P. '76) has been hired as Tallahassee's assistant city manager for development and transportation services.

1973

Michele l. Newberry (B.A., M.S. '74) was recognized by the FSU School of Information Studies as the 1998 Distinguished Alumnus.

1974

Glen L. Bahnick Jr. (B.A.) is the airport manager of Clearwater Airpark and a civil engineer with the City of Clearwater Public Works Department/Engineering Division.

Evelyn A. Gilbert (B.S., M.S. '77, Ph.D. '90) is on the executive board of the Southern Criminal Justice Association.

Christopher J. Weiss (B.A., J.D.'77) is a partner in the law firm of Holland & Knight LLP in Orlando. He practices commercial litigation with an emphasis on construction law.

1975

Emma R. Colquitt (attended in 1975) began a full-service cardiovascular laboratory business in Dallas and Austin. After nine succesful years she sold it and started Colquitt and Associate Research Group, which specializes in medical service management.

Ronald D. Hunter (B.S., M.P.A. '77, M.S. '83, Ph.D. '88) is president of the Southern Criminal Justice Association. He is also an associate professor of political science and criminal justice at Jacksonville State University.

Marlene E. Peters (B.S., Ph.D. '91) is an associate professor of reading at Bainbridge College in Georgia.

Randy J. Ser (B.A., M.F.A. '77) won the 1998 Emmy Award for art direction, variety or musical program for his work on "Cinderella," which aired on ABC last year. He is now working on a series called "Martial Arts."

1976

Chip Chalmers (B.F.A.) has directed episodes of the television shows "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and "Melrose Place."

Lt. Col. Roy E. Truba Jr. (B.S. '76) recently accepted a position with Systems Research and Applications International Inc. in Arlington, Va. He had been with the US Marine Corps for 22 years in logistics.

1977

John R. Black (B.A.) was appointed senior vice president and editorial director of Global Publishing, The McGraw-Hill companies.

Charles E. Hackney (B.S.) has been elected president of the Florida Association of Property Appraisers.

Mark H. Thiemens (Ph.D.) was one of six winners of the E.O. Lawrence Award announced by Secretary of Energy Bill Richardson. The award is given for outstanding contributions in the field of atomic energy. He won in the Environmental Science and Technology category. Thiemens is an isotope chemist and works for the University of California at San Diego. His work has helped track greenhouse gases, ozone depletion and acid rain.

Alyson Aldine "Deanie" Stover (B.S.) returned from two years in Rome, Italy, where she was program scheduling manager for the Orbit Satellite Network broadcasting in the Middle East. She is now with Sony Pictures, working as an account rep., serving the Canadian broadcast market.

1978

Ronald D. Barton (B.S.) is a partner with KPMG Peat Marwick LLP in St. Petersburg. He is national director of the firm's sports and entertainment practice.

Allen Hill (B.S.) joined Haas Publishing Company in Atlanta as publisher of the Atlanta New Homes Data Book.

Dr. Sonda R. Oppewal (B.S.) has been promoted to associate dean of nursing for practice and research at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City.

1979

Clifton P. Campbell (B.F.A.) has directed the television show "Profiler" on NBC.

I. Ruth Markind (B.A.) played the part of Abby Brewster in "Arsenic and Old Lace" at DECO at the Boston Dinner Theatre in Mass.

Lt. Col. Kenneth B. Martin (B.S., J.D. '82) reported for duty with Headquarters Battalion, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Nancy L. Quarcelino (M.S.) Is joining the staff of Legends Club of Tennessee as the director of golf instruction at the new Legends Golf Academy. She is a two-time Tennessee PGA Teacher of the Year and a 1998 nominee for Golf Magazine's "100 Best Teachers in America."

J. Morgan Wright III (B.S.) was promoted to district manager of acquisitions and business management of AT&T Solutions. He resides with his wife and five children in Longwood, Fla.

1980

John Di Aquino (attended in 1980) is in a three-part movie called "Hard Time." He plays an assistant district attorney. Burt Reynolds is also in the movie.

Marc G. Ashmore (B.F.A.) had his artwork shown at The Dryden Gallery, Goralnick & Buchanan and at Palazetti.

Steven L. Sears (B.A.) is the executive producer of the television show "Xena - The Warrior Princess."

1981

Marie Foster Gnage (Ph.D.) was appointed assistant vice chancellor for educational services by Pima County Community College in Tucson, Arizona.

Alan C. Pratt (B.F.A.) performed a reading of "Go Go: A Tale of Modern Tribes" in Florida Project's Open Studio.

1982

Brian L. Jory (Ph.D.) joined the Berry College faculty as an associate professor and department coordinator of family and consumer sciences. He will teach classes in family intervention, family policy and human development. Berry College is in Mount Berry, Ga.

Donna L. Stearns (B.M.) wrote a play called "The Letter." It was performed at the Brooklyn Music Playhouse.

Stephen J. Suknaic (B.S., M.B.A. '86) has been promoted to president of Core Chemical Corporation, a commodity and specialty chemical marketing/manufacturing company based in Houston. He resides in Austin, Texas.

1983

Bryan Desloge (B.S.) owns TMC Medical Equipment and Services, headquartered in Tallahassee. It has been named one of the nation's fastest growing companies by Inc. Magazine.

Anthony L. Jackson (B.S.) has been promoted to partner at the Miami-based certified public accountant firm of Sharpton, Brunson & Company.

Ivey Van Allen Steinberg (B.S.) works for 20th Century Fox Television in Los Angeles, handling advertising and promotion for the nationally syndicated entertainment news program, "Access Hollywood."

1984

John P. Corry (B.S.) was a producer on the documentary film called "Secrets of War." The show focuses on facts from the two World Wars, Korean, Vietnamese and Gulf War conflicts.

Joan M. Crowe (M.F.A.) has written a cabaret show called "Shooting Stars: Songs and Stories of Tom Brown."

Carole J. Healey (attended in 1984) played the leading role in a production of Noel Coward's "Present Laughter" in Maryland.

Scott W. Spradley Jr. (B.A., J.D. '88) has joined the law firm of Gray, Harris & Robinson as a shareholder. His practice concentrates in the area of creditor's bankruptcy.

1985

George A. Cejka (B.S.) worked at FSU for 12 years at the Oglesby Union as director of Crenshaw Lanes. He recently accepted a job at the Centennial Student Union, Minnesota State University-Mankato as coordinator of the recreation center.

Edward T. Hida (M.S.W.) has been appointed vice president of residential services of Milwaukee Protestant Home, a non-profit retirement residence offering apartments, skilled nursing and short-term rehabilitation.

Bryan I. Hirsch (B.S.) has been named a partner in Metcalf Rice Fricke & Davis, an Atlanta C.P.A. firm. He specializes in taxation, with an emphasis in international tax. He joined the firm in 1989.

Robert H. Pruitt (B.A., M.F.A. '87) does voice-over work and plays the role of Johnny Miller in the "Johnny Miller Show" in London.

Tad E. Yoder (B.S.) was named Publix store manager in Jupiter, Fla.

1986

Valder F. Bastos (B.S.) is the managing director of corporate finance for WestDeutsche in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Christopher Dolman (B.A., M.F.A. '88) directed "Parallel Lives: The Kathy and Mo Show" at Michael Laird's Cape May Stage.

1987

William "Jon" Crumpacker III (B.S.) is president of Illuminactive Multimedia Inc. in Tallahassee.

Patricia "Tracey" Garmony Sellers (B.S.) was promoted to manager in the Tax and Business Advisory Services Practice for the company Arthur Andersen.

1988

Sarah R. Altman (B.A.) completed her M.F.A. in musical theatre at San Diego State and will teach there.

Tim J. Center (B.S., J.D. '91) is the director of public affairs for the Juvenile Justice Accountability Board of the Florida Legislature. He works with the Legislature and state and local agencies while monitoring the state's juvenile justice system. He is also a consultant to the North Carolina Governor's Commission on Juvenile Crime and Justice.

1989

B. Dan Berger (B.S.) is pursuing a master's degree in public administration at Harvard University.

Traylor Howard (B.S.) is an actor on the television show "Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place" on ABC.

Daniel B. Moisand (B.S.) is president of Optimum Financial Group in Melbourne, Fla. He has been named to serve on the Board of Practice Standards for 1999.

John H. Whitehead (B.S.) is an F.B.I. agent in Lexington, Ky. He has recently been selected to be on the Louisville Division SWAT Team. He will continue to investigate bank robberies in addition to his SWAT duties.

1990

Danny L. Balfour (Ph.D.) has won the 1998 Louis Brownlow Book Award from the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA) for his co-written book, "Unmasking Administrative Evil" (Sage Publications, 1998). The Brownlow Award is NAPA'S highest annual award for excellence in public administrative literature. He is an associate professor and director of the School of Public and Nonprofit Administration at Grand Valley State University, Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Lt. Cmdr. Decima C. Baxter (M.B.A.) reported for duty at Naval Support Activity, Naples, Italy.

David L. Fitzgerald (B.S.) is promoted to senior business analyst/project manager at Zeneca Pharmaceuticals in Wilmington, Del.

Peter A. Gonzalez (B.S.) started a South Florida law firm in Coral Gables. He practices in the areas of civil litigation, real estate and commercial transactions.

1991

Lt. Tony Gutierrez (B.S.) decommissioned the USS MERRILL (DD 976) and then reported to Naval Reserve Readiness Command Region 19 in San Diego, Calif. He is the assistant training officer.

Deborah M. Robinson (M.S., Ph.D. '95) is the secretary-treasurer of the Southern Criminal Justice Association.

Lorita Smith Shirley (B.S.) has been awarded the Heart of Gold by District 7 of the Department of Children & Families. That is its highest employee award and includes a $500 bonus.She lives in south Orange County.

Lt. Nathan D. Tracy (B.S.) is currently a patrol plane commander and patrol plane instructor pilot at Whidbey Island, Wash.

Donna M. Wheeler (M.F.A.) is running a film company, Girl Next Door Productions, in Los Angeles.

Isaac L. Williams (B.A.) graduated from the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Course at Patrick Air Force Base, Fla.

1992

Jon M. Lawson (B.S.) is a Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class. He participated in an Atlantic Joint Task Force Exercise while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, home ported in Norfolk, Va.

Karen M. Mower (B.S.) received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has joined the law firm of Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP, in Atlanta.

Lt. Carri A. Robbins (B.S.) is on a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans and Arabian Gulf aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, home ported in Everett, Wash.

1993

Kathleen D. Ambrose (B.S.) was appointed video producer for SeaWorld in Orlando. She will handle production and development of in-park videos.

Brian A. Anderson (B.S.) was promoted to regional consultant with Xerox Connect's Education Services Group. He lives in Alpharetta, Ga.

David A. Belisle (B.A.) was in the play "Red-Right-Return" at Theatre 22 in NYC.

Nicole K. Golden (B.F.A.) is performing in a production at the Steppenwolf in Chicago.

Stephen C. Mangan (B.S.) has been promoted to manager in the Tax and Business Advisory Services Practice of Arthur Andersen.

Jeffrey Martinez (B.S.) is a teacher at Walter C. Young Middle School.

Lt. Davin O'Hora (B.A.) participated in an Atlantic Joint Task Force Exercise while assigned to Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 126, based in Norfolk, Va. His squadron is embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise.

Donavin D. Scott (B.F.A.) participated in a staged reading of the play "Brown Silk and Magenta Sunsets" at the National Black Arts Festival in Atlanta.

1994

Nicole L. Benjamin (B.S.) is an assistant editor on the ABC television show "Trinity."

Capt. Chad E. Gibson (B.S.) served as a member of the Launch Weather Team for the launch of STS-95, which sent Senator John Glenn back into space. He was also recently hired as a meteorologist for WRBL-TV in Columbus, Ga.

Grace Gutierrez (B.S.) has joined the Fort Myers law firm of Henderson, Franklin, Starnes & Holt P.A., as an associate attorney in the estate planning and administration department.

Jill M. Kneeland (B.A.) plays a female lead in a movie entitled: "Thirty, Still Single & Contemplating Suicide."

Robert D. Long (M.S.) has co-written "Three Strikes and You're Out: Demographic Analysis of Mandatory Prison Sentencing" with Carl Schmertmann and Adansi Amankwa. Their article appeared in the November 1998 issue of Demography. Schmertmann is a professor at FSU. Long was also presented a black belt and instructor certification in Tang Soo Do, which is a traditional Korean martial art.

Matthew B. Robinson (M.S., Ph.D. '97) is the director, and editor of the newsletter, of the Southern Criminal Justice Association.

Christopher M. Sullivan (B.S.) is a navy ensign and was designated a Naval Flight Officer while serving with Training Squadron 86, Naval Air Station, Pensacola.

David L. Wrubel (B.S.) is a certified public accountant at Rachlin, Cohen & Holtz C.P.A.s in Miami. He specializes in international business consulting and tax.

Shannon M. Yost (B.S.) has been promoted to manager in the Business Consulting Services practice of Arthur Andersen.

1995

Stephanie Lemke Camangian (B.A.) is an editorial assistant at Simon & Schuster Publishers in New York City.

1996

Kristian C. Bernier (M.F.A.) is a cinematographer in Los Angeles. He was the director of photography for a film called "Six-String Samurai" directed by Lance Mungia. It was picked up by Palm Pictures/Manga after appearing in Slamdance film festival.

Rory S. Camangian (B.S.) is an ad-sales coordinator at MTV, the Music Television in New York City.

C. Alison Riley (B.S., M.A.C.C. '97), a teaching assistant and graduate student in the FSU Department of Accounting, obtained the highest score in Florida on the Certified Public Accountants Exams.

Trent R. Turner (M.M.) completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Christopher W. Velez (B.S.) was designated a Naval Flight Officer while serving with 562nd Flying Training Squadron, Randolph Air Force Base, San Antonio.

Claudia Waite (M.M.) made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in NYC in "The Magic Flute." She sang the part of the First Lady.

Stanley Wilkerson (B.M.) has joined the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra as a trombonist. The orchestra was founded by trumpet master Wynton Marsalis as a jazz repertory orchestra.

Shawn Z. Willett (B.A.) took part in "The Matchmaker" at The Westside Repertory Theatre in NYC.

Johnathan L. Williams (B.S.) received his commission as a naval officer after completing Officer Candidate School at Naval Aviation Schools Command, Naval Air Station, Pensacola.

1997

Mitchell D. Gans (B.S.) won the 1998 Davis Productivity Award in November 1998 for outstanding individual achievement for development of web-based course registration at Florida State University. Students with access to a computer and modem now no longer need to make long-distance calls or receive busy signals when registering for classes.

Christopher S. Hawkins (B.S.) received his silver pilot's wings at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas.

Wesley J. Kenyon (B.S.) is a marine and completed the financial management officer's course at the Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C..

Valerie Fisher Lassman (Ph.D.) received a special alumni award for 1998 at Barry University in Miami. She is completing the biography of Atlanta novelist Frances Newman in collaboration with the Newman family.

Don L. Latham Jr. (M.S.) has joined the faculty of FSU's School of Information Studies as a visiting research associate.

Tanya D. Perez (B.A.) founded a theatre company called Zantian 5 with Emily Bruce and Jen Owens.

Ryan S. Sweeney (B.S.) received his "Wings of Gold" and was designated a navigator after completing the 23-week navigator training course with Training Squadron 86, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla.

1998

Jason W. Owsley (J.D.) is an associate and member of the corporate department in the law firm Gunster, Yoakley, Valdes-Fauli & Stewart P.A. in West Palm Beach.
