Dr. Tom Luschei

Tom Luschei is an assistant professor of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Florida State University’s Learning Systems Institute, where he leads the Center for International Studies in Educational Research and Development. He is also a faculty member of the SIDES program, where he teaches courses on education and economic development and comparative education policy. Prior to completing his Ph.D. in International and Comparative Education at Stanford University in 2006, he earned a Master's of Arts in economics from Stanford and a Master's of Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Luschei’s research interests include the economics of education, teacher quality, teacher labor markets, and education policy in Latin America. He is currently working with FSU colleagues on a USAID-funded project to improve decentralized teacher education in Indonesia. He is also collaborating with colleagues from the University of Pennsylvania and Stanford University on a privately funded project to assess and improve Panama’s basic education system. Prior to his graduate studies, Dr. Luschei worked as a bilingual elementary and high school teacher in Los Angeles.
