Dr. Palmer is a Professor of Reading and Language Arts Education; she also has taught in the public schools, at the University of Connecticut, and at Florida A&M University. As an expert in language and literacy development, she has frequently presented at state, national, and international conferences, emphasizing the importance of translating theory into practice. In 1994, Dr. Palmer received the University Teaching Award in Recognition of Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Palmer has authored numerous articles and co-authored several books, including Reading by Doing: An Introduction to Effective Reading, Developing Cultural Literacy Through the Writing Process, and The Successful Meeting Master Guide for Business and Professional People. She is also the developer of the Figurative Language Interpretation Test (FLIT), which focuses on reading comprehension.
